Capstone Project
Purpose:
This project involves the creation of a full Web site and is intended to pull together all of the concepts and practices covered in this course. The files in this project will be created using the graphic editing and Web site development software used in the course. Students will select their own topics and objectives for their sites, but those sites must conform to specific minimal guidelines defined below. Grades will be based on how effectively students accomplish the stated goals in using various Web development techniques and their sites' adherance to language and accessibility standards.

- Select a topic for your site.
- Select a structure for your site. See the tutorial pages about this at:

- Decide on a navigation plan. See the tutorial pages about this at:

- Write a brief narrative explaining your site's purpose, target audience, structure, and navigation plan. Then submit that to me as a response to the Q&A posting in the Discussion area entitled "Capstone Project Objectives".
Minimum Required Elements for Your Site:
- The project folder name should be "capstone".
- Create an external style sheet named "capstone.css" for all pages in your site, defining at least:
- Body: margins, background color, and font family.
- Anchor pseudo-class declarations of your choosing.
- Create a home page named "index.htm" with a site navigation instructions and rollover-based links to at least the other required pages.
- Create a page named "about.htm" that explains your site's purpose, target audience, structure and navigational approach.
- Create a page named "contact.htm" that provides at least an email address to contact the author of the site.
- Create a page named "copyright.htm" defining the copy rights that you confer upon others.
- Create a visitor form page named "guestbook.htm" with fields for at least:
- First Name (textbox)
- Last Name (textbox)
- Email Address (textbox)
- Phone Number (textbox)
- Gender (radio option buttons)
- Contact Preference (drop-list): Email, Phone, None
- Comments (four line scrollable textarea)
- One of your pages must contain a table.
- One of your pages must contain a linked image map.
- All images on your pages must be optimized to use as little storage as possible while still maintaining acceptable image quality. Limit your file types to GIF, JPEG, and PNG.
- Your site must validate against the W3C Markup Validation Service and the W3C CSS Validation Service.
- Your site must pass the Accessibility test in Dreamweaver® CS3.
Submission Instructions:
When finished, your site must be uploaded to Student Server (student.irsc.edu) to a folder under your login account named "public_html/capstone". It also must be submitted via the "Assignments" tool in the . After completing your project, make a new empty compressed zip folder outside of your capstone folder named "CGS1821_Capstone.zip" (without spaces). To create a compressed (zipped) folder within any folder window:
- Right-click on the background of the white folder panel to produce a context menu
- Click on
New, then Compressed (zipped) Folder.
- After a brief delay, a new compress folder should appear in the current folder window and the cursor will be automatically placed in a renaming mode by selecting (highlighting in blue) the initial folder name of "
New Compressed (zipped) Folder.zip". Change the folder name by typing the new name on top of the old one and pressing the Enter key.
After completing your Web site, copy the folder named capstone into the new zip folder by dragging it on top of the zip folder.
Then, login to the and click on the Assignments link on the left side of the screen. Select Capstone Project and type your name in the Submission box. Use the Add Attachments button to attach your compressed (zip) folder to the submission and press the Submit button.
