The schedule for exams and quizzes in this course can be found on the syllabus (posted on my web site) and in the Calendar in Blackboard (formerly WebCT). Study guides for both can be found on my web site at
http://www.gibson.vero-beach.fl.us/classes/cgs2760/studyguides.html
The quizzes in this course are delivered online via the Blackboard E-Learning Environment and are typically available for 2 days (all day) between 12:00 AM on the opening day and 11:55 PM on the closing day. Students should be careful to start taking their quiz in time to complete it successfully within the timeframe allowed for the quiz. These quizzes are accessible from the Blackboard® class home page [login here if desired] under the link labeled "Assessments". It is advisable to take your quiz at a time when the college Blackboard support staff is on duty in case of difficulties.
For the quizzes, students may use their textbook and printed out copies of notes while taking the quiz, but don't use the book and web notes as a crutch. I strongly recommend that you produce your own set of hand-written or typed notes from your reading, just as if you were taking notes in class. The act of recording concepts helps you to remember them. Re-writing and reorganizing your notes helps you to set the concepts firmly in your mind. You must NOT use the web for research to answer questions while taking the quiz. This is primarily to avoid system crashes during your one shot at the online quiz. Also try to use a stable computer that is attached to an uniterruptible power supply (UPS) if possible. And of course, you must take the quiz without anyone else's help.
After the closing deadline for the quiz, your score will be available online through the "My Grades" button on the Blackboard Course Home Page. The score will be based on a total score of 50 points (1 point per question).
During quiz availability period, click on the "Assessments" button on our Blackboard Course Home Page. From the Assessments tool, select "Quiz 1" and a new window will appear containing instructions for the quiz. Review this window and click on the button labeled "Continue Assessment". A new window will open with all of the test questions in a frame on the left side of the screen and a simulated test answer form in a frame titled "Question Status" on the right. Maximize this window. Then, for each question, select the best answer by clicking in the circular radio push button in front of it AND then press the "Save Answer" button below that question. As you click on these items in the lefthand frame, you will notice the righthand simulated test answer form reacting to your actions. When you have answered all of the questions, press the button labeled "Finish" found at both the top and bottom of the lefthand frame.
Don't worry if technical difficulties arise. We will deal with them. Be sure to contact me immediately if you have any problems. If you need assistance with the Blackboard online quiz system, click on the "Help" button in the lefthand frame or contact Blackboard support person at 772-462-7768. Remember that telephone support is available Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Also be aware that you have only one attempt at the quiz. So don't start it and then log out and expect to return to it. Most students say that the quiz interface is fairly easy to understand and use. But, if you are concerned about using the it, I suggest that you take the quiz within the hours that Blackboard phone support is available to give yourself that safety net.
The final exam will be administered over a two day period in one of the IRCC Assessment Centers maintained on each IRCC campus. Students are requested in the first week of the course to send a message to me indicating on which campus they want to take their final exam. If no message is received, the exam is sent to the main campus.
There is a two-hour time limit to the exam period for the final exam. You must take a photo ID (preferably a license) to the Assessment Center to take the test. Also bring one SCAN-TRON Multiple Choice Test Grading Form (882-ES Green).
You may not use your textbook during the exam, but you will be allowed to use a single 8.5" by 11" page of notes, front and back of the paper, any size text. You must write your name on this sheet and hand it in with your test.
